Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Kia ora, talofa lava, greetings everyone!

Welcome back to another term and a warm welcome to all of our newest children and parents to the Clearview whanau!  It's been great to see everyone return to school full of renewed energy and enthusiasm.  Term 3 is promising to be another action-packed term with a lot of events and opportunities for our students.  Please take note of the term calendar and mark any events that are applicable to you and/or your child.

We begin this term with a roll of 748 children and we are continuing to grow steadily.  Numbers in our Discover Team of Year 1 children have swelled to the point of opening another Homebase (HB4).  We extend a very warm welcome back to Mrs Mel Upperton who has started teaching in HB4 alongside Mrs Ingram (HB5) and Mrs Ilton (HB6).

We are, once again, thrilled to bring you another Parent Seminar which is scheduled for next Wednesday 8th August at 7:00pm.  We are lucky to have Dr Lucy Hone who will be here to share her knowledge and wisdom about building resilience in ourselves and our children as well as how to look after our wellbeing in order for us to thrive.

I have heard her speak already this year and I am really excited to listen to her again next week.  Everyone is welcome, so come along, bring a friend and spread the word.  I'm sure Lucy will provide you with some practical strategies that work.  Tickets are $5.00 each and available at the office.  We will also have door sales on the night also.

Finally, if you were not already aware, The NZEI - New Zealand Education Institute (union) are currently in negotiations with the government regarding teacher pay and working conditions.  Negotiations have not resulted in an agreed new collective agreement to date, therefore Teachers and Principals across NZ have voted to strike on Wednesday 15th August.  Given the severe shortage of staff that will be here on this day, our Board of Trustees have decided to close the school.  Please read their article in this newsletter for more information.

We have also included an article in this newsletter which may help explain why this strike action is happening - FYI.

Take care and enjoy the rest of your week.
