Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Kia ora, talofa lava, greetings everyone!

The 2018 school year will draw to a close next week and it will be sad to farewell our Year 8 students as they leave us for secondary school.   This cohort of children will be our largest group of departing Year 8's ever.  Many of them actually started school at Clearview in our foundation year of 2010 as well.  These students would have started here as a new entrant (Yr 0) student from April onwards, which is really special.  We will do our very best to acknowledge them and give them a fitting send off next week.

Tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm will be our final whole school assembly.  We have a number of awards to hand out to children who have given service to our school.

We then have our Junior (11:30am) and Senior (1:30pm) End of Year Assemblies on Wednesday 12th December.  It will be fantastic to see you there as we celebrate a wonderful year of learning.

2019 Teacher Placements

2019 Planning is now complete and staff organisation is confirmed.  I have attached a layout of teacher homebase and powerteam placements. (see attached).

Today, parents are also informed of their child's HB and power team placement for next year, so the attached doc should help with making sense of how things will look next year.

The only staffing change that hasn't been advised to date is that Mrs Cara Carser, our Spark Team Leader will be on leave for the 2019 school year to recover from some surgery and to spend some quality time with her family.   We will really miss not having Cara here next year but we will see her on a casual teaching basis throughout the year.  Mrs Chris Quinn will join the Spark Team for next year in Cara's absence.

2019 Open Afternoon

On Friday 1st February between the hours of 1:00pm - 3:00pm, we will open up the school for all children and families to visit their new learning space, meet their teacher, drop off their stationery and become familiar with where to go on the first day back.  This event was a highly successful event earlier this year and we want to repeat this again next year.  More information about this 'Open Afternoon' is in a separate article in today's newsletter, please make a note of this in your diary.

Farewell to Staff Leaving

Next week, we will not only be farewelling Year 8 students, but we will also say goodbye to some amazing staff members:

Kent McDonald has been at Clearview for 5 years in various teaching and leadership roles, most recently as our acting Associate Principal.  Kent is extending his leadership career and moving to take up a Deputy Principal role at Parkview School in Christchurch.

Jason Galland leaves us after 6 years at Clearview to take up a teaching position at Waikanae Primary in his hometown on the Kapiti Coast.

Jo Silvey has been teaching part-time at Clearview for a few years and she is taking up a full-time position at our friendly neighbourhood school Lemonwood Grove.

Alicia Bell started at Clearview in the Te Kakano Room as a roll growth teacher in Term 2 this year.  She is heading to Wigram School next year.

Penny Arrowsmith - our beloved Office Manager will be relocating to Tauranga next year, so after 9 years at Clearview, having started as a foundation staff member, Penny leaves us for future adventures in the sunny BOP.

To all of these people, we say thank you very much and all the very best - we will miss you all.

Nga mihi nui ki a koutou

(Thank you to you all)

Parents, Caregivers, whanau, members of the community - I want to thank you all for your ongoing support that you give us.  We truly value the partnerships with you all and we appreciate having you alongside us as we collectively nurture and grow our young learners.

Take care over the upcoming holiday period and I look forward to seeing you all when we start back on Monday 4th February 2019.

Nga mihi nui
