Digi Awards Workshops @ Tūranga

Tracey Young —

Some of our keen Tech Squad students were fortunate enough to be invited along to the new central city library called Tūranga on Tuesday 25 June to learn more about the Digi-Awards run by Grow Waitaha.

During this time, our students were able to use Tinkercad to create 3D designs, Scratch to make their own interactive games and stories, use the Mbots for coding directions and trial Stop Motion for animating photos.  We really enjoyed the opportunity to explore and create during these four workshops.

The theme for DigiAwards 2019 is Innovative Ōtautahi!  This theme was chosen to:

  • celebrate the many amazing initiatives happening in Christchurch as our city regenerates
  • encourage students to become creative innovators themselves.

Students can interpret the 2019 theme in their own way. Students may choose to share stories of Ōtautahi innovations or they could showcase their own innovative and creative products and solutions.   We are really looking forward to linking this theme to our current inquiry work and having a go at creating some animations, commercials, coding or a website.

If you are keen to enter the Digi-Awards for 2019, have a chat with one of the Leveraging Digital Team (Miss Soal, Mrs Moir, Mrs Buyers, and Mrs Young) early next term.  More details can be found on the following link - http://www.growwaitaha.co.nz/digiawards/
