Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Kia ora e te whanau!

We are now halfway through the term. Thank you for your support so far in what has been a very unusual situation for us to contend with. The students at school have been amazing! Despite the disruption, school has been a really calm and positive place with fantastic learning routines established.

I want to start with some important COVID information:

I mentioned earlier this week that we will send out a weekly update on staff and student case numbers on a Friday.  Therefore, look out for an update from me which will come out tomorrow.

The health advice we have received is to expect several weeks more of community infection. So, we need to prepare for a long-term response to how we keep ourselves safe. Naturally, some whānau may be anxious at this time and want to know numbers and infection rates at school. Currently, we have very low numbers of notifications, however we expect this to rise. We will not be sharing specific details about classes and people. Rather, we will be focused on making the best decisions we can to keep everyone at school as safe as they can be.

We continue to monitor any impact on our school and will keep you updated. We may need to make changes to how we operate if we get higher rates of infection.

What you need to do

You and your whānau should watch for symptoms

If symptoms develop, get tested immediately

Then, stay at home until you receive the result

If positive, isolate with your household contacts for 7 days

What we’re doing

  • Clearview Primary will stay open and we will continue to monitor the situation.
  • We have in place appropriate public health measures and cleaning procedures.
  • Yesterday, it was announced that isolation time has been reduced from 10 days to 7 days. Covid positive people now need to test negative through a RAT on day 7 before returning to school. Household contacts will need to test on days 3 and 7.

Principal Sabbatical - Term 2

On another and more personal note, I wanted to let our community know that I am extremely fortunate to have been awarded a sabbatical which is 10 weeks of study and rejuvenation.  I will be taking this next term (Term 2) which means I will return in Term 3.   I was actually awarded this back in 2019, to be taken in 2020, however, due to a range of reasons (including the pandemic) I have had to move it a number of times over.  I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity to have some time and space to learn more, reflect upon my leadership and plan for making Clearview an even better place to learn and grow.  The leadership of the school in my absence is just being finalised now, so I will let you know what this will look like in our next newsletter.

Enjoy the rest of your week, stay well and have a lovely weekend.

Thanks / Ngā mihi nui
