Headlice

Tracey Young —

Unfortunately, several teams have had quite a few cases of headlice this term.  We appreciated your continued to support with notifying us of these cases in order to eliminate the spread.

There is no need for children to be excluded from school if they have headlice, however regular checking for eggs and lice  is required in order to ensure it doesn't continue to spread.  Anyone can get head lice – it doesn’t matter how clean or dirty a person’s hair is. Head lice spread by crawling from one person’s hair to another’s – usually between people who are in close contact, such as family or school classmates. Even if only one child with lice continues to  go untreated, others are very likely to become re-infested.

It is recommended that you should check children’s hair weekly, and daily when there is an outbreak.  Please check with your GP or pharmacist if you have any further questions.  Our school Public Health Nurse is also available to provide support if needed.
