It's been a pleasure to see the children and staff return to school and get straight back into the learning routine.  This term we have started with an extra class to cater for the growing new entrant numbers.

A very warm welcome to Mrs Adele Jack who has joined the Discover Team and started teaching in HB 3.  Adele is a very familiar member of our school community, and it's fantastic to have her with us on a full-time basis.  Welcome Adele!

Last week was a busy one, with the Senior Cross-Country on Thursday and the Year 5/6 Rugby Fun Day on Friday.  Congratulations to all of the children who competed in these events.  To those who were successful in qualifying for the Zone Cross-Country, bravo......what a fantastic effort.  All the best for your training and preparation for the next stage of competition.

Also, last Friday, we held a Mihi Whakatau (special welcome ceremony) to welcome a number of new students, staff and families who have joined our Clearview whanau this term.  Our Mihi Whakatau continues to be a special way of showing that we are a welcoming and inclusive school.

This term, we have taken another step forward with LINC-ED, our school's online management system,  by going live to parents.  An email with step by step instructions on how to access LINC-ED was sent to you and we have another article in this newsletter, in case you haven't yet had the chance to access the parent portal.  Teachers have been busy writing a "Post" regarding a Clearview Competency specific to your child.  These posts will be published today for you to read via the LINC-ED parent portal.

It seems that NZEI (the Teacher and Principal union) and the Government have not yet been successful in reaching an agreement regarding pay and conditions, so a large number of our teachers from Clearview and across Aotearoa NZ attended a union meeting this week to discuss possible next steps.  Another strike has been proposed and is currently being voted on.  Should this strike go ahead, our Board of Trustees will need to ascertain whether or not we can remain open.  To give you as much notice as possible, please pencil in Wednesday 29th May as the Strike Day.

It's Mothers Day this Sunday, so I would like to conclude by wishing all of you who are lucky enough to be a mother a very Happy Mothers Day.  I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable day.

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a great weekend.

Nga mihi nui
