Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Dear Parents / Caregivers / Whanau

Congratulations Zone Swimmers

Clearview students have continued to flourish at the recent Selwyn Zone Swimming Sports, held on Tuesday this week.  We sent a large team of young athletes along to this event to compete against the best swimmers within our zone and we had some outstanding results which is fantastic.

Congratulations to all of our children who competed, especially those who achieved a placing and will move onto the Canterbury Primary Schools Swimming Champs on 4th April.  I wish them well for their training and preparation for their next event.

Upcoming Union Meetings

Negotiations are continuing between Teachers/Principals and the Government.  An agreement has not been reached as yet, so the NZEI (New Zealand Educational Institute) are holding a number of union meetings around the country and these are scheduled for our area next week.

You will see a separate article in this week's newsletter about these upcoming Paid Union Meetings that many of our NZEI Union members will be attending next week.  Please note that we will be remaining open during these meetings, albeit with modified programmes during the afternoon due to a reduction of staff.

Linc-Ed Update

Linc-Ed, our new school management system (computer system)  has now been up and running at Clearview for 6 weeks.  So far, we have started using it for administration both in the office as well as in each HB.  There are multiple functions to this new system and we are working towards using it to its full capacity.

Next on the list for us is to make parent access to the portal live for parents.  This will allow you as parents the opportunity to log in at any time, view information about your child such as attendance rates, learning progress, view your school account and even make payment directly to the school.

We will also be using Linc-Ed for all reporting to parents and the way this will look and when information is shared with parents will be changing.  Traditionally, teachers have written mid or end of year reports focussing on achievement against the National Standards.

This year we are moving to a process of reporting that will share progress and achievement with parents on a more regular basis, ie termly.  Our teaching staff are currently working hard at learning how this system works and we are working towards sharing the first piece of learning with you early in term 2, which will coincide with when we 'turn the switch' to allow parent access to the online portal.

At the moment, you do not need to do anything.  Once we are ready to go, we will begin rolling out more information and login instructions.    Exciting times ahead!

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a great weekend.

Nga mihi nui
