Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Kia ora Parents / Caregivers / Whanau

Welcome to the 2021 school year!  It's wonderful to be back and to see everyone eagerly entering through the gate each day.  This year, we have started with a roll of 724 students across 30 HBs and we welcomed 73 new students to Clearview from Year 1-8 on the first day.  Having everyone together for our mihi whakatau on Friday to formally welcome our newest students, staff and families was a special occasion as always.

I extend a warm welcome to Miss Haley Gray and Mrs Larissa Walker who have both joined our teaching team this year, Hayley is teaching in HB 36 and Larissa is job share teaching in HB30 with Sarah Gillon.  We have also welcomed onboard Vanessa Stuart as our Five to Nine Cafe Manager this year.

We are such a busy school and it's shaping up to be another action-packed year ahead.  Following some community consultation on the future priorities for Clearview Primary held towards the end of last year, our Board of Trustees have set three new Strategic Goals that will drive our school forward.  These are:

1.  Learning - Strive for continued personal growth for students and staff to achieve to the best of their abilities

2.  Belonging - Students, staff, family, whānau and community strengthen their sense of connectedness, responsibility, identity, inclusiveness, culture and pride in our place.

3.  Innovating - Students and staff are future-focussed problem solvers and effective communicators who develop original ideas for sustained change.

A lot of time, effort and planning has gone into setting our direction and I'm excited about the year/s ahead for our awesome school.

Exciting Property Project for Clearview Coming up

You may remember, in 2019, the government announced that they were investing in school property by providing "SIP" (School Investment Package) funding to all state schools built before 2015 across Aotearoa NZ.  This money is a one-off capital injection to be spent on property projects that wouldn't normally be done due to lack of money.

Over the past year, our BOT has explored a range of possible ideas for this funding.  The main project we will be undertaking is to build a C.O.L.A (Covered Outdoor Learning Area) structure.  This C.O.L.A will be installed over the existing hard court area and it will provide extensive shade and shelter for our students when playing outside.

Furthermore, the courts will have a new multisport artificial turf laid underneath the structure and it will be complete with post pads, LED lighting and a sound system.

Work is already underway with the design and consent phase and we hope to start seeing it take shape on site during the next term break in April.  All going well, the structure should be completed by mid-May, then we will have the turf installed with new basketball, netball courts and various other line-markings.

As we get closer to construction, we will share more information about how we intend to manage the health and safety of our students, staff and community during the build process.  Exciting times ahead!

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a lovely weekend.
