Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Kia ora Parents / Caregivers / Whanau,

A very warm welcome to Term 3, especially to our new students, staff and families.  We had 23 new students start at Clearview on the first day of the term which is wonderful.  We also welcomed a new teacher to our team, Miss Chelsea Jenkins who has started up our newest NE roll growth class in HB4.

On Friday morning, we came together as a whole school for our special Mihi Whakatau ceremony to officially welcome our new members to Clearview Primary.  Due to COVID-19, we weren't able to hold a Mihi Whakatau last term, so as you can imagine, we had lots of people present for this one.  It is always such a special occasion and it gives me great pride to speak on behalf of our school as part of it.  For those of you who were able to be present, I hope you enjoyed the experience.

This week has been a busy one with Learning Conferences on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Walking around the school and chatting with parents during these conferences was fantastic and the feedback has been positive.  It's an important part of our reporting process, so thank you for attending these - I hope you found them valuable.

A huge thanks to our teaching team for putting in lots of additional hours preparing and hosting the conferences.  They did an amazing job and I'm very grateful.

As I mentioned above, we had a large group of new students start with us.  This seems to be the case across the Rolleston area with our local schools experiencing significant and continual growth.  Plans are being made to accommodate such growth in our town in the way of a new Primary School (Rolleston East School) opening in 2022 and a proposed new secondary school by 2025.  The Ministry of Education has started a process of community consultation to get the views and ideas from the public about:

1. Proposed amendments to the enrolment scheme boundaries of the four state primary schools (Clearview Primary, Lemonwood Grove School, Rolleston School and West Rolleston Primary School);

2. The development of enrolment scheme boundaries for a new primary school in East Rolleston which is projected to open in Term 1, 2022; and

3. Options for additional secondary provision for the Rolleston area, which will likely be required by 2025.

I have created a separate article in this newsletter for you to read to learn more.  Don't forget to have your say.

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a restful weekend.

Ngā mihi nui
