Clearview Competencies

At Clearview Primary, we have 6 "Competencies".  These competencies are a set of future-focussed skills and values that we believe are important for our students to develop and refine over time in order to be successful citizens of Aotearoa NZ and the world as a whole.

They form the basis of our school culture and are used in a variety of contexts to help us teach the students what they mean.  For example, this year we have begun our journey with PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning).  This is a school-wide framework that promotes a positive school culture of learning and behaviour.  We are using our Clearview Competencies as a basis for our behaviour management plan.  We explicitly teach our students what these Competencies mean and what they look like in practice.  We celebrate and acknowledge children who demonstrate these inside and outside the classroom and if things go wrong, we use them to reflect on what happened and what we could do next time.

Our Clearview Competencies are such a crucial part of who we are as a school and they are not just restricted to our children.  We, as adults, must model and promote them too. Our children look up to us, they observe what we say and what we do.

Canterbury Cross Country

Yesterday, we had a team of Clearview athletes race at the Canterbury Primary Schools X-Country Champs at Halswell Quarry.  Our students raced against the best runners from across the region, so as you can imagine, the competition was tough.  I congratulate our team of runners on such fantastic results.

C.O.L.A Update

Finally - some great news about the progress of the COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Area) structure we will have installed over the hard court area between the Big Block and the hall.  I have received word this week that work is scheduled to begin at the start of the upcoming holiday break.  They will start by installing the footings for the structure which means that there will be machinery and large trucks coming and going from our school grounds during the time of installation.

Extensive fencing will be put in place to restrict access and we will share the plan to manage the safety of our school community once it's confirmed.  The build is expected to take a few weeks, so once we return to school next term, we will have strategies in place to manage the limited access to the court area.

It's just fantastic to be so close to the reality of having such an amazing facility for our school to utilise for many years to come.
