Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Kia ora Parents / Caregivers / Whanau

Thank you to everyone who attended our Learning Conferences during Week 2.  For us, it was a great way to connect with you as parents/whanau and to discuss the progress and achievement of your child so far this year.  Hopefully, you found these conferences beneficial as well?

LINC-ED was a common topic during many learning conferences, especially the Learning Progressions and how to interpret the radial dials for Writing.  Please note that Progressions for Reading and Maths are currently being updated by your child's teacher.  If you log in to view your child's profile, you may notice that the Reading Progression is now there.  Teachers are working on the Reading progressions now and these will be updated and ready for viewing by the end of next week.

Mathematics Progressions will be worked on next and should be completed for every child by the end of this term.  From that point onwards, all three Progressions (Reading, Writing and Mathematics) will be updated continuously throughout the year, so be sure to log in at any time to see your child's progress and to learn what they are working on.  Your ongoing support, patience and understanding is very much appreciated as we implement this new form of reporting.

This week, we have welcomed a new member to the Clearview team - Miss Hanneke van den End.  Hanneke has joined the Discover Team in HB2 as our new roll growth Teacher.  I extend a very warm welcome to Miss van den End, it's wonderful to have her with us and I'm sure the children in HB2 will enjoy getting to know her.   It seems that numbers in our new entrants and Year 1 HBs are continuing to grow!

It's hard to believe but we are starting to look at the expected numbers and school organisation for 2020.    This is a long and well-considered process as it's so important to ensure that we have the appropriate level of staffing, as well as the best possible year-level structure within each team.   If we had a stable and consistent roll, this can be slightly easier, but when we have significant building and construction of residential homes happening next door, within our enrolment zone.........it can complicate the process.

If we have an accurate idea of expected numbers at each year level, or when children will be turning 5 and starting at Clearview during the year, we can structure the school in a way that best meets their needs.   To help us with this, we ask that you let us know ASAP if you either intend to enrol a child at Clearview next year or if you will be withdrawing your child from Clearview.    That would be very much appreciated.  Simply contact Fiona Davidson (Office Manager) on 347-7025 ext 3 or email fionad@clearview.school.nz.

Did you know that the Government has recently announced that they will be building another primary school here in Rolleston?  They have acquired land to build the school, however, it has not been confirmed exactly where it will be or when the school will open.  This is, however,  exciting news for our rapidly growing town. I have been Principal here at Clearview for nearly 4 years now and during this time, 2 primary schools and 1 secondary school have opened, which means this will be the 4th school to be built.

What this means for us, is that we will no doubt increase in student numbers over the next two years as Branthwaite, Falcon's Landing and Urban Estate subdivisions take shape (these subdivisions are within our current enrolment zone), then we will need to work collaboratively with the eBOT of the new school as well as our current neighbouring schools to review and adjust our enrolment zone to account for the new school and to manage our school roll.

Heraclitus, the ancient Greek philosopher said that "change is the only constant", and this certainly reigns true here in Rolleston.

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the rest of your week.

Ngā mihi nui
