In March two teams of Year 7 and 8 students started practicing for TOMS, to go and compete in a competition against other students all over Canterbury. The two teams were competing for different categories, like arts, maths, science, languages and more. One Clearview team won the regionals in Canterbury. They were all very happy with their result, sadly one team didn’t qualify to the nationals in Wellington.

When the team arrived at Wellington they successfully won the nationals. In their task they were all lined up and locked in a lecture room, they had 3 hours to complete a long term challenge. They could only aloud to leave the room to go to the toilet. The judge came and gave them a spontaneous challenge giving them a question to answer in five minutes. Judges would watch to see what strategies they came up with. The teams had three hours to present their solution to all the other teams in their category. After they gave the teams big awards for all who placed.

They were all shocked by their success, and they were on their way to Australia. But they didn’t have enough time to fundraise. But they were still all happy with their win, and a big thanks to Mrs. Prior and Miss McDermott for organizing TOM’s for 2019.
