Matatea Team Writing Shared by students from Homebase 11

Clearview —

In the Matatea team we were learning how to write from the point of view of a snowshoe hare or a lynx, high up on the snowy mountain top. As you read each story, can you work out the point of view it has been written from?

The Chase

On snowy mountains up high, I was looking for some branches to nibble on. I saw something move. I thought it was a branch but it wasn’t. It was a lynx. I ran away from the lynx. I thought I was dead meat. It was cold on my wee paws. I knew I had to keep going. I was feeling scared.

My big tummy is grumbling. I smell something in the distance. I creep and sneak. I hear noisy rabbits running by. I see one in the snow and I dash behind the white rabbit. Leaping high I scratch the fluffy rabbit on his short tail. I had delicious blood in my mouth. Then it escaped. I looked everywhere, behind the bushy trees and under the snow. My tummy was aching with hunger.

On the snowy mountains I was looking for food. The sun was shining on me while I was walking in the deep freezing snow. Suddenly I saw a white bunny. Then it saw me. It ran in heaps of directions. II started to chase the bunny as it flew. It did zig zags all around the place. I swiped but it was too fast for me. I was getting slower. Then I laid down in the freezing snow and the white bunny got away and went to his family.

High up in the crisp frosty mountains, my giant paws sink into the deep snow. I glare side to side looking for food. In the distance I spot a delicious snowshoe hare. I pause, not to frighten it but it notices me. The hare runs in a zig zag pattern around the trees. I sprint quickly after the hare. I got my dinner. I pick it’s blood covered body up in my mouth. Munch munch. I proudly walk back home.

I’m in the chilly, frosty and crisp snow high up in the mountains. The sun glistens off my white coat as I play hide and seek with my friend. Together we nibble on juicy red berries and dig in the snow. My ears prick up. Danger is near. Then I see it. A lynx on the prowl. I dart away. The lynx follows me so I zig zag around to confuse him. He does not give in. I run in a straight line and he follows me. I run, run, run but he is literally on my tail. He swipes at my little fluffy pom pom tail. I fall into a hidden hole in the deep snow . . .
