Peer Mediators Big Day Out

Tracey Young —

The annual ‘Peer Mediators Big Day Out’ was held on August 8th at Wharenui School in Riccarton. Six Clearview Peer Mediators were chosen to take part in the day's events, together with 64 peer mediators from around the Christchurch/Selwyn area.

The event gave Peer Mediators the opportunity to hear what other schools are doing for their peer mediation programme, listen to inspirational speakers, meet other students, share ideas and have a lot of fun!

We all really enjoyed listening to the keynote speaker: Dante Fyfe from the Pillars and Empathy Association. Dante is a volunteer worker who offers his time and support to children who have a parent in prison. Dante certainly made us understand the value of volunteer work and how it helps communities.

By the end of the day we all felt that we had learned the importance and value of our work as Peer Mediators in the school for both students and teachers. All in all, a great day out!
