Keeping Cobham Beautiful
Cobham students are learning about the importance of freshwater aquatic systems in the local community
As part of the "Keep New Zealand Beautiful" campaign, Cobham Science Technology students have been involved in cleaning up pollution around the school and local stream. In class the students are learning about the importance of ecosystems and biodiversity. They then have the chance, as scientists, to observe and gather data and record their findings on the local stream health.
Students are actively engaged in making a difference:
"It felt really good to go out and help planet earth with rubbish and pollution and see what life is in the river at school..." Briley Dodds, Room 15, Year 8.
“I think it is interesting to go to the school stream because we are finding lots of microscopic organisms and we are observing how pure and clean our stream is. I thought it was good because we are getting rid of the nasty plastic that could be found in the stream”. Jaya Mitchell-McKay, Room 13, Year 8.
