Wheelchair Basketball - Koru Games

Rebecca Waters —

At the end of last term, Wairarapa Cobham Intermediate was represented in the Koru Games with 2 Wheelchair basketball teams.

Firstly, Matt from Basketball New Zealand came to have a session with the teams at school and we learnt some epic tricks, such as how to pick the ball up from the ground using the wheel of the chair. We played some games and learnt the rules of the sport.

We then competed against St Martins school at Koru games. The teams played fair, were kind and showed the values of Aroha, Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga and Noho Tahi. Also, Taylan Endicott-Davies was acknowledged for giving his time up to referee the day for us - Thank you again!

The final consisted of Cobham A vs Cobham B therefore, we came first and second, with St Martins coming in 3rd for the day.

It was great to see the addition of an inclusive sport to Koru games and we look forward to attending again next year.
