Lit Quiz 2020

Annie Bowker —

Finally, after two previous dates being affected by COVID lockdowns the 2020 competition was held at Cobham on Wednesday 4th November

This year 35 teams competed in the 10 categories in which each had 10 questions. Teams do not know these until the day and prior to Round 1, they select a category to double their points on. This year the categories were: Anger, Baddies, Beards, Blood & Bones, Cats, Christmas, Cities, Comics & Cartoons and Confectionery. There is never any way that teams can predict and prepare for categories prior to the competition and it all comes down to the team members reading widely and across a range of fiction. A knowledge of traditional tales, myths and legends, poetry, authors and illustrators is an advantage.

Congratulations to the Cobham 2 team of Josh Andersen, Rory Collins, Miguel Monreal and Lachie Wallace who were placed 2nd with a score of 84. This was a close 2 points behind the winning team from Cashmere. The Cobham 1 team of Sam Allan, Sam Corbett, Emma Mauger and Katie Horton scored and were 7th with a score of 76.

This was the final time that Cobham will host this competition as it will now move to Tūranga, our Christchurch Public Library.
