Teams

We have entered a top girls team, top boys team and then 6 mixed teams. There maybe some movement between teams due to training clashes and matching player combinations if the coaches feel their needs to be.

These teams will play each Friday evening at the Bishopdale YMCA during Term 2: 12th May (6 weeks) Term 3: 27th July (6 weeks)

Each week the draws will be sent out via email and on the school website so you are well informed of what time your child’s game will be on Friday evening.

Miss Dore’s Teams – Bulls and Wild Wolves on a Wednesday morning

Mr Mathieson’s Teams - Swish and Rimrockers on a Thursday Afterschool

Costs

There will be a cost ($55) for participating in these teams. This cost is to cover Basketball New Zealand’s Registration and YMCA team entry fees. These fees will be added to your child’s school account for you to pay. We will expect to have half the fees paid before the end of term 1 and the other half before the end of term 2. Payments need to be made by these dates for your child to participate or continue participating in their team.

Other opportunities

We have several other opportunities for your child to potentially represent Cobham in Basketball. They are the AIMS Games, CAIMS Invitational tournament and weekend invitational games.

AIMS Games (Yet to be confirmed for either team)- The AIMS Games is a weeklong tournament that has a wider range of sports and more participants than the Commonwealth Games. This tournament is in Tauranga and is held from the 10th September to 15th September. Each year we make a decision based on the strength of the teams’ performances on Fridays and the talent we have in the school as to the inclusion of Girls, Boys or both teams to represent Cobham. This is a highly competitive tournament and because of this we will only include basketball if we feel they have a strong competitive chance. This decision will be made before the 2nd June.

CAIMS Invitational Tournament – This tournament is held over two days in October (24th and 25th). We enter one boy’s and one girl’s side to compete against other Christchurch Intermediate Schools and any outside of Christchurch Schools that may attend. We host James Hargest College from Invercargill every year and help with billeting their students. These teams will be selected closer to the time.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email.

Kind Regards
