TERM 3

TERM 4 WEEKLY SUMMER SPORT SIGN-UPS

Summer sport commences on Tuesday 2 November and runs weekly (excluding November 16) for five weeks in total. The final day of the competition is Tuesday 7 December. All games are played on a Tuesday afternoon, starting at approximately 1.30pm. Students will return to Cobham on the bus before 3pm.

We understand that some of these dates will clash with camps and other school trips and we will do our best to work around these.

Please note there will be a Syndicate Summer Sport rotation back at school on Tuesday afternoons that all students will participate in if they are not in a competitive team. This will only proceed under Alert Level 1.

CAIMS DUATHLON

Date of event: Monday 30 August

Venue: Ruapuna Raceway (Mike Pero Motorsport Park)

Time: Reporting time 9:15 am for participants ready for race briefing. Races will conclude by approximately 1:30 pm. We will meet at Cobham first and go from school - more details TBC.

This is an extremely competitive event so students who are of a high ability in running AND biking should enter only. This registration form does not confirm your entry. A confirmation email will be sent to those who have been successful after registrations have closed. There is NO school duathlon, however, if sign-ups exceed our school's entry allocation, there will be a school event arranged to select students. Like last year, this will be a race to test the running component only and will take place before school.

TERM 2


COMPETITIVE WINTER SPORT

Competitive Winter Sport is an opportunity for students to compete against other schools in the CAIMS Winter Sports Competition. It runs weekly for 10 consecutive weeks during terms 2 & 3 and the competition begins on Tuesday 1 June. Games commence at 1.30pm.

There will be trials for all sports where the number of students registered exceeds the amount students we are able to enter. Based on previous years, there will likely be trials for the following sports: hockey, football, rugby, netball, table tennis, & badminton.

Competitive sports on offer are:

  • Rugby Rippa
  • Rugby Tackle 10s
  • Football - boys and girls grades
  • Hockey - mixed
  • Netball (boys grade & girls grade)
  • Table Tennis - mixed
  • Squash - mixed
  • Badminton - mixed

The number of teams we have on offer will be dependent on the number of parent volunteers we have to coach teams.

TERM 1


BASKETBALL

Basketball games are held at the YMCA Bishopdale Recreational Centre on Friday evenings during terms 2 & 3. Students are expected to be available for ALL games. If students are selected for a Cobham Basketball team, they MUST be prepared to play every week.

If they are successful in being selected in one of our top teams, there will also be the opportunity to play in other tournaments throughout the year, some of which include trips outside of Christchurch in the school holidays (these are not compulsory if you just want to play on Friday nights).

Trials dates will be confirmed via the daily notices and emailed to the provided email address.

AIMS GAMES INDIVIDUAL SPORTING CODES - REGISTRATION OF INTEREST

Date: Sunday 5 - Friday 10 September

Location: Tauranga 

We are now taking registrations for students wishing to represent Cobham at AIMS Games in an individual sporting code. This form is to register interest only; this does not guarantee a place for your child in the Cobham team to attend AIMS. The sports coordinator will be in touch in due course to confirm successful candidates. 

Athletes wishing to enter an individual sport MUST have ample experience in their sport (i.e. Canterbury / South Island / National level or equivalent). They will also need a parent available to attend the tournament with them, as each sport requires an adult manager.

CAIMS TRIATHLON

This is the registration form for the Canterbury Primary & Canterbury AIMS Triathlon. By registering your interest on this form DOES NOT guarantee entry into this event. Each school is limited to a certain amount of entries each, depending on the roll size of the school. You will be notified via email if you/your child has been successful in being entered.

Date: Tuesday 23 March 2021.

Venue: South Eyre Rd (near West Eyreton) ~27km from the start of South Eyre turning off Tram Rd at Clarkville

Reporting time: 9.45am

All athletes must compete as individuals and complete all three disciplines (ie there is no 'team' category). The distances are as follows:Swim - 100mCycle - 10.8kmRun - 2.5km


ALL students wishing to be considered must also be signed up for the school swimming champs. Preference will be given to students who participated in the following events last year (or the equivalent for Year 7 students):- Cobham school swimming sports - Canterbury AIMS Swimming sports- Canterbury AIMS Cross Country (qualifiers, as this event was canceled due to Covid)- Canterbury AIMS Duathlon

We will enter students based on results from the above events, if necessary.

SCHOOL SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The school swimming sports is an optional, competitive event. All entrants must be competent and confident swimmers.

Date: Monday 8 March

Time: 9:45 am - 12:15 pm

Venue: Jellie Park

There is a cost of $3 to compete.

Events at the Cobham Swimming Sports are:

  • 50m Butterfly (Open event - Year 7 & 8 combined)

  • 50m Freestyle

  • 50m Backstroke

  • 50m Breaststroke

  • 100m Individual Medley

Students must enter a minimum of two events.

Please note entry in this event is compulsory for students who are wishing to be in contention to represent Cobham in the CAIMS Triathlon.

SPORTS ACADEMY

Registrations for the Cobham Sports Academy are open. Application forms can be collected from the school office and are to be filled in by the student who is applying. Completed forms need to be returned to your child's classroom teacher no later than Friday 19 February.

PCT COMPETITION

When: Friday 19th March 2021
Where: Cowles Stadium, Wainoni, Christchurch
Teams consist of two girls and two boys. 

Each school is allowed to enter a maximum of 2 teams and the cost is approximately $12 per student to enter. 

The PCT Competition (Police Competency Test) is the same physical test Police must undertake as part of their training. The event will be jam-packed with fun activities and challenges for the teams competing! The winning team will attend the National PCT Fear Factor Competition; Police College, Wellington, in November. 

The trial will include a physical test and a practical test, and will take place in week 3. (BOYS - Wednesday, GIRLS - Friday).

CANTERBURY AIMS SUMMER TOURNAMENT

Date: Tuesday 16 March

Time: 9am - 3pm (approximately)

Venue: Various

Sports: Touch, Softball, Bowls, Orienteering, Golf, Tennis, Korfball & Cricket

**STUDENTS MAY REGISTER FOR ONE SPORT ONLY** This is due to time restraints and logistics with trials. The tournament rules also stipulate that students are only allowed to participate in one sport only on the day.

Please note that this tournament does clash with Year 7 camps. Please take this into consideration BEFORE registering. 

There will be trials for cricket, touch, korfball and softball only and will be held in weeks 3 & 4. More information on trials will be available soon. Trials for bowls and orienteering will be held if necessary (numbers dependent).

CRICKET

Trials for cricket will be held in weeks 2 & 3 of term 1. There are two different tournaments we are entering for cricket this term. 

  • Summer Tournament (please see information above under the heading 'Canterbury AIMS Summer Tournament') and 
  • The CJCA National Cup and Shield Cricket Tournament - dates are yet to be advised.

To Register: 

For the opportunity to play in either (or both) of these tournaments, students must register and attend both cricket trials to be in contention for selection. 

To register, please fill in the Summer Tournament registration form (found above) and fill in sections 1 & 5 of the form. 

Registrations close Wednesday 10 February @ 3pm. Strictly no late entries will be accepted.

WATER POLO

Please click the link below if you wish to trial for a Cobham water polo team. You need to be confident swimming in deep water and please note that water polo runs for the whole year.

Water Polo is one of the few sports that runs for the entirety of the year, so please consider this before signing up. If you make a team, you will be expected to commit to this for the entire season. Games are played on a Monday or Friday night, depending on the grade.

Trials will be held in week 2 as the competition begins in week 3. Trial days and times will be confirmed. At trials you will be assessed on deep water swimming and ball handling skills.

Played at school so there is no fee required. Singles only.

SOUTH ISLAND SCHOOLS MTB CHAMPS

This is being held at Mount Hutt Bike Park, Methven from 12 - 14 March. Note that this event is for experienced riders only and parents/caregivers are responsible for their child at this event. 

Entry fees are as follows; Enduro - $45 per rider, Downhill - $65 per rider, Cross Country - $35 per rider.
