Cobham Kids’ Literature Quiz Team compete in the National Final in Wellington
A fleeting but successful visit to the capital for four of our students.
The Cobham team, which included Alia Govin-Fowler, Lauren Mauger, Thomas Kamo and Finlay Clark, competed in the national final held at Wellington’s National Library on Sunday 28 May. This competition can be compared to a sports tournament for reading 16 teams battled it out over 5 different categories. It all comes down to how quickly you can hit the buzzer and the luck of the questions you receive, which could be about anything from myths, poetry, illustrators, authors and books from all genre.
Cobham was placed 6th, two places up from last year! An excellent achievement for us all. Thank you very much to the parents who traveled up to support the team. During our short trip, we also enjoyed a brief visit to Te Papa to view the Gallipoli exhibition and were also fortunate to be able to see the new exhibition, ‘He Tohu - Signatures that Shape New Zealand’ at the national library. This includes the Declaration of Independence, Te Tiriti and the Women’s Suffrage Petition.
We look forward to continuing to meet each Friday as we prepare for the Canterbury 2018 competition in term 1. Cobham has won a right to compete at nationals 5 times in the last 6 years and we are eager to continue to hold our place in this world wide competition.
