A Community Programme Just For The Girls

Sophie Crawford —

A new programme, run by GirlGuiding NZ, is underway in Christchurch. It provides pop up weekend adventures & experiences for girls, aged 5-17, who are not members of GirlGuiding New Zealand. The aim is to inspire and empower girls, and get them ready to take the world by storm. There are amazing experiences on offer that cover a range of industries, working alongside experts in the field so that girls get an informative and educational experience.

Girls don’t have to belong or sign up to GirlGuiding NZ, and they can take part in one or multiple experiences as they wish.

There is an exciting lineup of events coming up in June including:

  • Operation Animation: A collaboration with Animation Station allowing girls to become director for the day as they learn stop motion animation.

  • Shred the Slopes: The ultimate girls day at the mountain! A behind the scenes look at how Mt Hutt is run, gear hire, lift pass and lesson with a professional to bring out your inner adventurer. This experience is for beginners and girls aged 10 – 18

In the pipeline there will be collaborations with:

  • Ethique Beauty: A workshop and talk from the CEO Brianne and her entrepreneurial journey.

  • Woman in Construction: A workshop from Woman in Construction and a speaker who is dominating this male dominated field.

  • Christchurch Adventure Park: Get ready to learn how to mountain bike like a pro with this beginner’s guide to Mountain Biking.
