Cobham and Burnside Hāngi 2017 - what a feast!
Last Tuesday Cobham and Burnside Primary staff and students, whānau and community members enjoyed a delicious hangi lunch.
Kia ora te whānau,
Last Tuesday, as a community we celebrated by sharing a hāngi. Getting a hāngi together is no small feat but it is such a wonderful event to be involved in and beautifully combines the Māori values of whānaungatanga, aroha, mahitahi & manaakitanga….not to mention we all get a mean feed at the end!
A very special thanks to the parents, Yo, Jo, Tracey, Nic, Matt, Matt Bateman and Ren, for their planning, preparation, equipment, expertise and hard work. We really value and appreciate your involvement and support in making this happen.
Thank you to Mr Lane, Ren and some of our students for their blood, sweat & blister-inducing digging of the hangi pit, to Mrs Crouch for all her help with the money & orders, to our kapa haka for their performance, to all the students who helped with the food preparation and to all the staff who jumped on board to help wherever and whenever needed.
It is heartwarming to see how events just like this can unite our community and provide a unique learning opportunity for our ākonga.
Once again, the Cobham whānau has been very giving and helpful during a really busy time of year for you all and we appreciate it immensely!
Arohanui,
Veronica Noetzli and Raegan McGregor
