Below are the sports sign-up forms for 2023. All information and registrations for relevant sporting events will be updated here throughout the year. For more information please contact the Sports Coordinator via sports@cobham.school.nz
TERM 3
CAIMS WEEKLY SUMMER SPORT
Please fill in this form if you wish to trial for a Summer Sport team that will compete in the CAIMS Weekly Summer Sport Competition.
**NOTE THAT DUE TO TIME RESTRICTIONS, STUDENTS MAY TRIAL FOR ONE SPORT ONLY**
Sports are as follows;
- Touch
- Cricket
- Futsal
- Slow Pitch (modified Softball)
- Ultimate frisbee
The CAIMS Summer Sport competition will run for a total of five weeks, starting in Week 2 of term 4.
Trial dates are as follows: TERM 3, WEEK 10 - Monday 18 Sept @ 1:20pm- Tuesday 19 Sept @ 1:20pm

HUXTER MTB RACE
Venue: Mcleans Island
Dates: October 26
Costs: Teams of 2 - $25, Individual Y7/8 only - $15
Parents/Caregivers are responsible for organising transport for their own child to/from the venue and supervising throughout the competition.

CAIMS DUATHLON
Date: Monday 4 SeptemberVenue: RuapunaYear 7 & 8 race distances: Run 2km, bike 9km, run 1km
Please note: unfortunately, this event clashes with the AIMS Games in Tauranga. Any students attending AIMS Games will be unable to enter the CAIMS Duathlon.
As Mrs Sherratt is away at AIMS Games for this event, we MUST have a parent volunteer to manage the team and another parent to volunteer as course marshal. We will also need full parent support with transport. Please consider this before entering your child. Without these roles fulfilled, we will be unable to enter any Cobham students in this event.
Please read all of the information on the sign-up form BEFORE signing up. Registrations must be completed by a parent/caregiver.

CAIMS RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS
Date: Monday 26 June
Time: 9am-2.30pm (session times for each grade will be available after close of entries).
Venue: Olympia Gymnastic Sports cnr Springs Rd & Corsair Drive, Wigram Park.

2023 SKODA SOUTH ISLAND SCHOOL ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Please fill in this form to register your child for the 2023 Skoda South Island School Road Championships.
2023 Skoda South Island School Road Championships will be held in Christchurch from 1 - 2 July and hosted by the team at Canterbury Schools Cycling. Held at Ruapuna Motorsport Park. Entry fees will be added to your child's account.

AIMS GAMES Individual Sports Registration of Interest
AIMS Games is a week-long tournament held in Tauranga in week 7 of term 3. The process of selecting individual sports will be different from previous years. Please note we have NOT yet decided which team sports will be represented at AIMS Games this year.

NON-COMPETITIVE WINTER SPORTS OPTIONS
During Terms 2 & 3 on a Tuesday afternoon, our Weekly Winter Sports Programme will be taking place. This is commencing on Tuesday 23rd May and during this time the whole school will be involved with sport. Students will either compete in a competitive winter sport (trials are currently underway) or will be involved in our Non-Competitive Winter Sports Program.
Everyone in the school must fill in this form to indicate their non-competitive winter sports options, regardless of whether your child is trialing for a competitive winter sports team or not.If students are selected for a competitive team, they will automatically be withdrawn from the non-competitive program. If you would prefer a hard copy of this, please let your child’s classroom teacher know and they can have this arranged.

TERM 2 WATER POLO
All players from Term 1 need to confirm whether they wish to continue to play in Term 2.
In addition, any students who did not play in Term 1 but would like to be considered to play in Term 2 need to complete this form.
Students who would like to be considered as new players for Term 2 will need to attend a trial on Thursday 30 March in the morning 7:30am - 8:15am at Jellie Park sports pool.

CAIMS TRIATHLON
Date: Tuesday 14 March
Venue: South Eyre Rd (near West Eyreton) ~27km from the start of South Eyre turning off Tram Rd at Clarkville
Reporting time: 9.45am
**Note there is a subtle change to the race day schedule in 2023. We will be including mass start Championship races that entrants can opt into. The number of Championship race starts will depend on entry numbers. Those that do not want to be part of the mass start will be included in the wave starts of smaller numbers. Please indicate your preference on the form.**
By registering your interest on this form DOES NOT guarantee entry into this event. Each school is limited to a certain amount of entries each, depending on the roll size of the school. You will be notified via email if you/your child has been successful in being entered.

COMPETITIVE WINTER SPORT
Competitive Winter Sport is an opportunity for students to compete against other schools in the CAIMS Winter Sport Competition. It runs weekly for 10 consecutive weeks during terms 2 & 3 and the competition begins on Tuesday 23 May (week 5 of term 2).
Competitive sports on offer are: (note that ALL sports are open to all genders).

Trials
There will be trials for all sports where the number of students registered exceeds the amount students we are able to enter.
The trial period will begin on Tuesday 21 March during school time and will run for three weeks (weeks 8, 9, & 10 of term 1), with week 1 of term 2 being a contingency day. The aim is that every child should aim to attend as many trials as possible to ensure they have sufficient time in front of the selectors. To ensure trials are as fair as possible for all students, there will be at least two selectors for each sport.

BASKETBALL
Date: Friday nights during terms 2 & 3
The number of teams and competitions that we enter will be dependent on numbers, talent, AND availability of volunteers who are willing to coach.
If students are selected for a Cobham Basketball team, they MUST be prepared to play every week. If they are successful in being selected in one of our top teams, there will also be the opportunity to play in other tournaments throughout the year, some of which include trips outside of Christchurch in the school holidays (these are not compulsory if you just want to play on Friday nights).
Trials dates will be held during school time and will be confirmed via the daily notices and emailed to the provided email address.

CAIMS SUMMER TOURNAMENT
Date: Tuesday 7 March
Time: 9am - 3pm (approximately)
Venue: Various
Sports: Cricket, Touch, Softball, Bowls, Orienteering, Golf, Tennis, & Futsal.
The CAIMS Summer Tournament is a one-day tournament with multiple sports played around Christchurch.
**NOTE STUDENTS MAY REGISTER FOR ONE SPORT ONLY** This is due to time restraints and logistics with trials. The tournament rules also stipulate that students are only allowed to participate in one sport only on the day.
Please note that this tournament does clash with Year 7 camps. Please take this into consideration BEFORE registering.
Trials
There will be trials for all sports where the number of students registered exceeds the number of students/teams we are able to enter. We will likely have trials for the following sports in on Tuesday afternoon in weeks 2 & 3: cricket, touch, mixx, and softball.
More information on trials will be available after registrations.

SOUTH ISLAND SCHOOLS MOUNTAIN BIKING CHAMPS
Venue: The 2023 Skoda South Island School MTB Championships will be held at Coronet Peak, hosted by Coronet Peak with support from Queenstown MTB Club.
Dates: 30 March - 1 April (with 2 April as a backup weather day)
Wednesday 29 March - Open / DH unofficial practice
Thursday 30th March - Downhill
Friday 31st March - Cross Country
Saturday 1st April - Enduro
Sunday 2nd April - Weather Day
Note that this event is for experienced riders only and parents/caregivers are responsible for their child/children at this event.
Entry fees are as follows:
Enduro - $50 per rider
Downhill - $65 per rider
Cross Country - $40 per rider

SCHOOL SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The school swimming sports is an optional, competitive event. All entrants must be confident swimmers.
Date: Thursday 16 February
Time: 9:45 am - 12:15 pm
Venue: Jellie Park
Cost: $3, which covers the cost of hiring the pool.
Events at the Cobham Swimming Sports are:
50m Butterfly (Open event - Year 7 & 8 combined)
50m Freestyle
50m Backstroke
50m Breaststroke
100m Individual Medley
Interclass Relay Event
Students must enter a minimum of two events NOT including the relay.
Entry in this event is compulsory for students who are wishing to be in contention to represent Cobham in the CAIMS Triathlon, who are wishing to be in a 2023 Cobham water polo team, and were in the 2022 Cobham Sports Academy.

WATER POLO

For more details on water polo, please read the information on the registration form. Competition dates are yet to be advised.
The number of teams for 2023 will be dependent on the number of students registered. Trials will be held in weeks 2 & 3. At trials, students will be assessed on deep-water swimming and ball-handling skills. Students must be confident swimming in deep water.

COBHAM SCHOOL TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Date: TBC (tentatively week 4, pending confirmation from the venue).
Venue: Te Kura Tennis Club, Hagley Park
Format: Singles
Cost: $5 to cover the cost of transport

Note this is a knockout tournament, so only winning students from each match will progress to the next round. After a student loses a match, there will be no further competitive games to play for them, however, there will be courts available for friendly games (singles and doubles).
