Cobham Sports Academy

Courtney Ross —

The Cobham Sports Academy is a very popular program aimed at students competing at the top level for their chosen sports. Students have to apply and if successful in their application, they commit to the program for the entirety of the year.

There are two Sports Academy sessions per week:

  • Tuesday block 2 - theory-based learning. These sessions cover things such as nutrition, sports science, sports psychology etc.

  • Before-school morning training - physical training session. Students meet at school at 7:45am and have fitness-based sessions.

Students need to be able to commit to both lessons each week.

During sports academy lessons, students engage in activities that are games-based and not individual sport-based. This is to encourage students to try different sports and showcase different skills. There is a lot of time working on recovery and looking after our bodies to ensure we have well-adjusted and managed athletes. In addition, students can look forward to guest speakers/visitors, trips out of school, practical nutrition sessions in the foods room, and more!

There are high expectations of our Sports Academy students and they are expected to put 100% effort into all areas. They are seen as role models around the school and their effort and behaviour are expected to reflect this.

Sports Academy is an opt-in extra-curricular activity, meaning that students must pay in order to take part. The fee is to cover all costs of each of the sessions, including trips, throughout the year. Costs for 2023 will be communicated in the application form.

Applications for the Cobham Sports Academy will be available for collection from the school office from Friday 3 February.
