Hitting the slopes

Tony Lane —

Providing opportunities for students to jump outside their comfort zone  Room 22, 23, and 25 enjoyed a perfect day on the slopes.

Skiing is a sport in which a teacher and a student can participate together.  They may be at different levels, but they can all enjoy the experience. Many students tried skiing for the first time at Mt Hutt with a big smile on their faces. There is something so pure about skiing at the top of a mountain with clear views all the way to the ocean.  All students really enjoyed the occasion.

There is also something unique and special about skiing for kids. I am constantly amazed at the great enjoyment that many students have of skiing. Rarely, I meet students who do not like the event. Even in the worst conditions, if there is fun to be found, the students find it.  Today teachers saw a group of students taking their first ski lesson. Perhaps because, in spite of their initial ineptitude and falls, these new converts to skiing were all smiles, laughter, and pride when they first successfully descended what is apparently considered the "slope of the baby".

Here are some comments from the kids.

Armani Quinn-Rarere “Skiing down Highway 72 was awesome.”

Mia Holbrough “Doing the harder runs was cool, they were challenging.  Going fast is what I like.”

Ian Zhang “Skiing was fun!”

Austin Myles “I got to do tricks all day on my board and going fast is awesome. Adrenalin is good!”

Jungmin Jo "Skiing was so much fun! It was enjoyable because I got to spend time with my friends there."

Ema Takahashi. "It was fun, I liked how we got to learn new things and spending the whole day with everyone"
