Skoda South Island Road Champs

Courtney Ross —

Success for the Wairarapa Cobham Cycling Team, who competed during the holidays!

It was a cold weekend for the South Island Road Cycling Champs held at Ruapuna over the holidays from the 1st -2nd July. Well done to Aimee Free, Ben Smith, George Kavanagh, and Tasman Woodfield for your efforts.

Cobham, for a small team of 4, outperformed their rivals and won many medals whilst showing sportsmanship and respect for all. They were also the first to compete at a South Island event in the new Wairarapa Cobham cycling tops!

Read below for the results.

The Cobham team receiving their gold medals and Skoda Jerseys for winning the team time trial over Medbury.

The team had a strategy that saw Tasman lead the team out for the first 2km as the lead rider to go as hard and fast as he possibly could. He did a great job, then the rest of the team shared the lead for the remainder of the race to power across the finish line all together, (Photo 2 ) to win by 4 seconds over Medbury A.

Photo 3:
Aimee got 2nd in the individual time trial and 2nd in the road race, winning 2 silver medals in the U14 grade.

Great effort, Cobham!
