AIMS Games Day 2 Wrap up

Andy Gibson —

All the action from Day 2 (Monday 5th Sept) of the 2016 AIMS Games

Today all of our other sports started their 2016 AIMS Games Campaign and what a day we have had. The weather was raining one minute, blowing a gail the next and sunny the moment after. We had a lot of fun and all the teams have competed really well. Below is a brief summary of the days events...

Golf

A long day in difficult conditions – wet from heavy overnight rains and a three-club wind made for some long holes and tricky short selection. Mika MacDonald, benefiting from his experience on the course at last year’s event, had a super day with 32 Stableford points and is placed comfortably in the top 20 overall. Amy Weng struggled off the tee playing her first round of AIMs Game golf and tired from an outstanding performance last week at the NZ Women’s Age Group Championships, but is looking forward to setting a new course record at Te Puke in tomorrow afternoon’s second round.

Tennis

Nant beat Joey Huang 6-1 6-4

Nont beat Yu 6-1 6-1 and beat Sasha 6-1 6-3

Finn beat Yudiin dong 6-3 6-2 and beat Jordan withtelson 6-1 6-3

Blake beat Caleb Mattison 7-5 6-4 lost Daniel Hammond 6-2 6-0

Nant, Nont and Finn all made it through to the Quarterfinals an awesome achievement. Well done to Blake who went 1-1 and did an amazing job as a year 7. Blake will play in the ranking matched over the next couple of days.

Boys Hockey

Game 1 Vs Orewa College

Boys started tentatively and were 0-1 down after 5 minutes, through defensive leaks. Boys then started hitting their straps and went 4-2 up at the half. Second half we outscored them 3-1 to finish 7-3 Win. Good start but a few things to work on.

Goal Scorers- Dougal (3), Charlie (2), Sam (1) and Flynn (1).

Charlie Swan Sinbin also!!!!!

Girls Hockey

Game one: 3-1 win against Pukekohe

Game two: 2-1 win against St Mary's

Great passing and communication helped us play really well as a team we had a fantastic day. We looked after our bodies really well so we could recover and play at our best each game. Our highlight was our Pc's (penalty corners) at the end of the game to give us the win in the second game. Cant wait for tomorrow.

Boys Football

Game one: 15-0 win against Gordonton School man of the match Will Emslie

Game two: 6-0 win against whakatane intermediate man of the match Nathan Dix
