Outstanding 2019 Season Finish for Cobham Cycling Team

Courtney Ross —

In 2019 Cobham had nine riders competing in the weekly Christchurch Schools Cycling competition held over terms 2 and 3 on a Wednesday at Tai Tapu, as part of an overall Cycling NZ schools programme.

Each week the boys braved cold winter temperatures to compete in either scratch racing, individual time trials or team time trials. This year over 200 students from intermediate through to high school competed each week against others of a similar ability.

For most of our riders road racing is a new experience and the school is really proud of the commitment, effort and attitude of its cyclists as they compete each week in the various disciplines.

At the end-of-season prize-giving, Cobham Intermediate was awarded Top Junior Boys Team for 2019, and finished the Scotty Brown’s Team Time Trial Series in third place.

During the season four members of the team competed in the South Island Champs where their time trial team came second, behind Christchurch Boys High School.

Cobham Intermediate is very proud of their riders, who competed each week with determination and a great attitude to each other, their competitors, and the officials.

Well done boys!

A special thanks to Bernadette Sanders, who managed the Cobham cycling team for 2019. We appreciate the time, organisation and dedication she showed to our athletes throughout the cycling season.
