Cobham’s trip to NYLD 2019.

On the 30th of May a group of 18 students attended an inspirational conference to learn more about leadership.

Hi my name is Rynil,

A few other year eights and I attended the National Young Leaders Day or NYLD for short.

The topic of the day was: He aha te kai a te rangatira, he korero, he korero, he korero. What is the food of a leader, its conversations. It was at the Horncastle arena, there we heard from many inspirational voices who were speaking from experience to help us become the future leaders of New Zealand. Some of the speakers included, Dr Lehan Stemmet, Ronnie Taulafo from what now, and we also heard from Kings and had a free concert from him. Some of the things we learnt was, to treat other people not only the way you would like to be treated but how they would like to be treated, to listen to the truthful voices in your life, and you serve to lead. Also if you are in a situation where things go wrong don’t say you should do better say you will do better.

We also heard from a girl our age called Lucy Gray who organized several climate change strikes. It was a fun packed day with many other schools from all over the south island. Some of us bought souvenir pins and we will remember the great time we had.

Special thanks to Miss McKinney and Miss Dirkze.
