Wearable Arts at Cobham

Wearable Arts at Cobham

Wow! What a show.

On Thursday, of the last week of term, Year 8 Cobham students held their ‘Identity’ Wearable Arts Exhibition. The show was the culmination of a term’s work which involved students investigating their chosen country’s culture from a past, present and future perspective. Groups of students from each class had to represent each era of their country with a piece of wearable art.

The result was an afternoon of inspired visual metaphor and entertainment. From Russia to Tonga, Afghanistan to Mexico, Japan to Somalia, Kenya to Egypt, India to the Philippines and North American the audience was taken on a sensory journey of discovery. While each piece of art was paraded, a representative of each class presented the audience with interesting information about their chosen country, and the rationale behind the imagery and symbols displayed in the artwork.

From a teaching and learning point of view, it was great to see an idea which was generated by Year 7 students in 2018, come to life in a creative, meaningful way on Thursday. We would like to thank all teaching staff for their hard work and inspiration and the students for their research, creativity and performance on the day.
