Courtney Ross - May 29, 2019
Over the previous weeks/term, we have been looking at all of the sports in contention to attend the National AIMS Games Tournament, held in Tauranga from September 8 – 13. The level of competition at AIMS Games is of an extremely high calibre across all sporting codes. We have made the decision that the following sports teams will attend, as we believe they have shown potential to compete strongly throughout the tournament. These decisions were difficult for us to make and we know there will be some disappointed students in other sports who are not attending. We would like to make it very clear that we do not make these decisions lightly and a lot of time and consideration has been spent prior to these decisions being made.
Cobham Team Sports attending the 2019 AIMS Games:
Individuals
We will continue to work alongside those who have registered for individual sports. These will be announced, alongside the final team selections, before the end of Term 2. Please note that selections for cross country are based off placings in the Canterbury Cross Country Championships, taking place on June 23rd. To qualify, students will need to place in the top 10 at this event.
TRIAL INFORMATION
If your child wishes to attend any of these OPEN trials, you will need to register them for trials via the google form/s linked below. Each team will have three trials and there will be a selection panel of three adults, with relevant expertise, to select each of the teams. In order for students to be selected in a team, they must register and attend AT LEAST two out of the three trials to be considered for team selection. Students must make these trials a priority above other commitments/activities. If, for a justified reason, your child is unable to make one of the trials, please communicate this with the staff member in charge as soon as possible.
The reality is that these team sports will cost around $850-$900 for the week, which is inclusive of all costs for the week, including flights, accommodation, food, transport and entry fees. Please take this into consideration before registering your child for trials.
