Cultural Festival Performance 2016

Cobham Intermediate's Kapa Haka give it their all with a stunning Samoan themed performance at this year's Cultural Festival.

Cultural Festival is the main event that the students have been working towards throughout year under the amazing direction and manaakitanga of Matua Maaka and the Rangi Ruru Tutors. Following months and months of hard work and dedication, it was time for the Kapa Haka to shine - and they did just that!

For this year, Cobham Intermediate have added a splash of Island Culture to their Kapa Haka performance. We begin with our Māori waiata - Whakataka te hau. With our next two pieces we carry you away on a voyage to Samoa as we sing Amuia - a beautiful Samoan song, followed by the Sasa - a fast paced Samoan clap dance! Finally, we conclude with our passionate Cobham Haka. The Sasa has been one of the most demanding pieces to learn as a rōpū with its fast pace and technical hand movements. However, our ākonga embraced the challenge and have received high praises for their lively and enjoyable performance. Check out the video below.

We would also like to say a big thank you to Matua Maaka and the Rangi Ruru tutors. Without their amazing leadership, support and commitment to our Kapa Haka we would not have been able to present a performance of such high calibre. Thank you for making it such an enriching and empowering experience for our ākonga.

Finally, thank you to our incredible students - we a very proud of the performance you gave at Cultural Festival and all the hard work and time that you have put into Kapa Haka. Congratulations on your amazing performance!

The Kapa Haka are lucky enough to be able to perform their line up once again at the Aurora Centre on Tuesday the 13th at 6:30pm as part of Te Hononga - the school cluster Kapa Haka festival. If you would like to come along tickets are available for $5 (cash only) at the school office. These need to be purchased by this Friday so get in quick!
