Term 2, Week 10, 2019

Kia Ora, Talofa Lava and warm greetings,

This week all classes have spent time reviewing aspects of the school’s Digital Agreement. We have been made aware of numerous groups of children using Cobham’s logo on Instagram. The message to all students was clear, using our logo on social media platforms is inappropriate and breaches not only their digital agreement but also the law. Please help us reinforce these messages with students at home.

Regarding the Instagram groups, many were innocent ‘friend groups’, however, there were some that were totally inappropriate. Again, please talk with your child about appropriate online behaviours and also review their online presence.

The pending holidays don’t necessarily mean a break for all of our staff or students. Currently, we have 12 students and 2 teachers in China to be part of a camp with students from China and the United States and we have 20 students representing Cobham at a basketball tournament in Oamaru over the middle weekend on the holidays. I’m sure all of these events will go well and would like to thank the teachers involved for their work over the holiday break.

Mid-term reports will be made available on Linc Ed tomorrow from 3 pm.

Term 3 has many exciting events for students. For those involved in Madagascar, rehearsals will start to ramp up and I know that Miss Chilvers has already shared a schedule for the first part of next term. We are looking forward to observing the cast progress as individuals and look forward to watching them collectively come together.

Teams for the AIMS Games have been announced. Again, Cobham will have the largest Intermediate team from the South Island at the AIMS tournament and we take pride in sending such a big contingent. We will have over 70 students attend this event and we genuinely believe that the students involved will have some fond memories of their time away. We look forward to the selected teams working hard together in the coming weeks to prepare for their time in Tauranga. With over 11,000 competitors across numerous sports, the competition will be challenging and the students who represent Cobham will learn a lot about competition, performing as a team and playing in a tournament.

Open Night is scheduled for Tuesday, 23 July, the first Tuesday of Term 3. Again we would appreciate you sharing this information with friends and family. Enrolment forms for 2020 can be completed online from now, just follow this link - https://forms.linc-ed.com/?school_id=3323. Online enrolments are preferred or hard copies of enrolment forms and our prospectus are now available from the office. Enrolments close on 30th August. Please adhere to this date to avoid disappointment.

The Community Dental Service will be providing dental care for children enrolled with our service during the upcoming school holidays. The clinics will offer treatment and relief of pain sessions by appointment only. To make an appointment please contact our Call Centre which operates between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday throughout the year.

The following Dental Clinics will be open during these school holidays:

· Northcote Clinic, 24 Tuckers Road, Casebrook

· Hillmorton Clinic, Hillmorton Hospital, Sylvan Street,

The clinics will offer appointments between 8.45am and 3.00pm for school-age and preschool children requiring treatment.

I do hope all students enjoy their break and would expect that they show 3RP@C over this period. We look forward to seeing them all back at school to start term 3, fit and well on Monday 22 July.
