School Uniform

As there is no uniform jacket, on wet/cold days students may wear an appropriate jacket to suit the weather conditions. Female students may wear the school PE shorts or track pants when cycling to/from school instead of the winter skirt.

Shoes

Please note the photos below are of the appropriate school shoes as detailed above. They are NOT any other type of black leather shoes (sport, casual etc). These latter shoes will not be allowed. It is important that students have the correct uniform shoes as it is a safety issue in our technology rooms and also indicates a preparedness, as a family, to follow school expectations. We thank you in anticipation for ensuring your child(ren) have the correct shoes – don’t be swayed by what your child or suppliers may say is acceptable.

Uniform

All students must wear the full and correct uniform at school, to and from school and on all school visits/activities. If a student is unable to wear correct uniform then the classroom teacher should be informed in writing.

Please name all uniform. There are 630 students in our school and when unnamed gear is lost it is like finding a needle in a haystack!

Any additions/alterations of uniform will be advised by the Board of Trustees in plenty of time for the following school year.

Hats

Hats with the new student selected Cobham design are compulsory and are only able to be purchased from school. Please do not buy a hat from anywhere else – it must be one of our new ones with our student selected design on it. These are available for purchase from the school office between the hours of 8am-3.30pm. We have two types of hats available - bucket or a full brimmed style hat.  Both are $20.

The policy at Cobham for wearing hats is that if a class and teacher are outside for an activity during the school day they must all wear a hat. At break times students are encouraged to wear their hat but this is not enforced. Staff on duty are focussing on engaging students in positive activities rather than policing the wearing of hats as this becomes a distraction from our core task. We believe that the wearing of a hat in summer needs to be a habit and this is best learned through not being forced to wear it but by understanding the importance of sun protection. We are obviously strongly aware of the dangers of UV rays particularly in New Zealand and all classes are provided with sunscreen which teachers encourage students to use.
