From The Counsellor's Desk

March 2019

Kia ora kotoe and greetings to the wider Cobham whanau.

I applaud the Board of Trustees for increasing their commitment to guidance counselling at Cobham Intermediate School this year.

A major focus of mine for the year is to create a culture where students know that to seek support when necessary is a sign of strength.

To help embed this culture, I am spending time in all classrooms this term, becoming a familiar face around the school and teaching classes the value of developing a mindful approach to thinking. Through Mindfulness, and focussing on being in the present moment, the students learn a strategy to control worrying thoughts. They also learn a great mind clearing exercise to use before going to sleep.

I work Mondays and Thursdays but can be contacted at any time during the week on counsellor@cobham.school.nz

When at all possible, working with families for shared outcomes, is a preference, though your children are, of course, able to self-refer.

Nga mihi,

Marg Flyvbjerg
