Pulse Point Survey

One of the goals in our Strategic Plan is 'We develop meaningful and authentic partnerships with our school community.' To better understand how we can achieve this, we are asking both our learners, and their whānau to complete a very quick survey. We want to hear from as many of you as possible and, to that end, the class with the highest percentage of responses, from students and whānau, will receive a pizza lunch for the class. You can find the pulse point survey here. The survey is very quick to complete, with only 5 questions to complete.

Learner Leaders

During 2025 we continue to have a number of leadership opportunities for our Year 5 & 6 learners. We are pleased to be able to offer a range of opportunities for our learners to develop their leadership skills through an area they are passionate about, from Sports Coaches, to Librarians, to Kapa Haka leaders, to School Councillors, to Digi Leaders. We are excited to announce that 2025 sees a new leadership opportunity for our learners - House Leaders. Two year 6 learners have been selected to lead each House during 2025. Congratulations to the following learners who have been selected:

Kea - Tasweeb H and Rose S,

Takahe - Milly L and Max P,

Tui - Izzy M and Rathini P,

Weka - Oscar J and Bella M.

Specialist Teachers

We are fortunate to have three Specialist Teachers working across our school, Ms. Casey, Mrs van der Schouw and Mr Robertson. These teachers work with our learners in visual art, music and digital technology respectively. The specialist skills and knowledge that these teachers bring to our school is greatly valued. Our learners work with these specialist teachers when their classroom teacher has Classroom Release Time (CRT). CRT is an opportunity for our teachers to work with learners on a more personalised level, carrying out assessments and better understanding their needs. This time is also used to plan, as well as observe other classroom practice across the school. We are also very lucky to have Mrs Loveridge working in our school in a CRT release teacher, following the typical classroom programme but also teaching Te Reo across our kura.

Sickness and Wellbeing

We are noticing an increased number of learners who are unwell with colds, the flu, vomiting and diarrhoea, and COVID-19, among other illnesses, at the moment. Please ensure that, if your child isn't well enough to attend school, you let the office know so that the absence can be recorded.

If your child has obvious symptoms like coughing and sneezing, please consider keeping your child at home to avoid infecting others. We regularly remind our students about good hygiene practices such as coughing and sneezing into their elbow as well as washing their hands after blowing their nose. Please reinforce these practices at home.

Gastro (tummy bug) can spread easily to others, so a child should not be at school if they are vomiting or have diarrhoea. A child can return to school after 48 hours (2 days) have passed since the last time they vomited or had diarrhoea.

Curriculum Korero

For Year 1 -6 state primary schools in New Zealand, the changes to the curriculum have resulted in it being split into two 'phases'. Phase 1 outlines the learning that will take place in Years 1 - 3, with Phase 2 outlining the learning that will take place in Years 4 - 6. The phases replace the previous known curriculum levels. These phases align neatly with the changes we made across the school in 2023, we we changed the school structure from three syndicates to six pods with our two Assistant Principals, Dianne Tremain and Amanda Dennison being responsible for Years 1 - 3 and Years 4 - 6 respectively.
