New Entrant Teacher
We are excited to announce that Sasha Pritchard has accepted a role as a New Entrant Teacher position in Room 1 for the remainder of 2025. Sasha will be working four days a week with Dianne Tremain working one day a week in this class. We are excited that Sasha has accepted this offer as she is well known to us and currently works in a part time capacity at College Street Normal School. Sasha has a lot of experience as a teacher, having taught at Winchester School for a number of years. We are confident Sasha will be a fantastic addition to our team.
Change of Date
As previously communicated, the Ministry of Education has permitted every primary school in New Zealand two Curriculum Days to carry out professional learning and development around the Mathematics Curriculum. We had previously indicated we would be holding a Curriculum Day on Friday 30 May. Unfortunately, the facilitator who the Ministry of Education provided to work with us is no longer available on this date. As a result, we will not be holding a Mathematics Curriculum Day on Friday 30 May. However, the Ministry of Education facilitator is available to work with our team on Tuesday 3 June. As a result, we will be holding a Team Only Day on Tuesday 3 June.
A reminder that the King’s Birthday will be recognised across New Zealand on Monday 2 June. This means that College Street Normal School will be closed for instruction on Monday 2 June and Tuesday 3 June. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Door between Rooms 7 and 9
Please do not use the door between Rooms 7 and 9 to access our school or to leave the school grounds. This door is not for everyday use and was left unlocked one morning, creating a health and safety risk for our learners and team. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Cluster Swimming Sports
On Tuesday, 18 Year 5 and 6 learners represented College Street Normal School at the Southern Cluster Swimming Sports. This event was held at the Lido Aquatic Centre and included the top swimmers from Turitea, West End, Central Normal, Carncot, Riverdale and College Street Schools. Congratulations to everyone who competed on the day, their swimming and behaviour were both excellent. The results below speak for themselves. Thanks to Kate and Mr Peters for their organisation and supervision, and to the whānau who came down and cheered on their tamariki.

Pulse Point Survey
The Pulse Point survey closes on Friday. This is your last chance to provide us with feedback and contribute towards potentially winning a pizza lunch for your child's class. One of the goals in our Strategic Plan is 'We develop meaningful and authentic partnerships with our school community.' To better understand how we can achieve this, we are asking both our learners and their whānau to complete a very quick survey. We want to hear from as many of you as possible and, to that end, the class with the highest percentage of responses, from students and whānau, will receive a pizza lunch for the class. You can find the pulse point survey here. The survey is very quick to complete, with only 5 questions to complete.
Update Contact Details
Please contact the school office if any of your contact details have changed. It is extremely important that the data we hold is accurate and up to date in case we need to contact people in an emergency.
Curriculum Kōrero
The Ministry of Education has reported positive early findings from maths professional learning days. As part of these days, the Ministry of Education ask that teachers complete a survey. The responses to these surveys have been positive:
Over 80% of teachers report a deeper understanding of the structure and intention of the refreshed learning area and the importance of teaching to year levels.
More than 70% of teachers believe that the refreshed curriculum will lead to improved student outcomes.
We are looking forward to engaging with the Ministry of Education mathematics professional learning and development facilitator later in the year.
