The Intermediate Department entered two teams for the Kids’ Lit Quiz last week held at DNI Intermediate School for the Otago region. The team consisting of Clara Ballantyne, Natalie McDonald, Tessa Smith (all Y8) and Alyssa Duthie (Y7) won the competition ahead of 18 other teams.
It was very exciting as during the competition the team was chasing the lead team for quite some time.
The team will now compete at national level in Wellington on Sunday 26 May and to this end; Whitcoulls donated $1,000 towards airfares and accommodation as their prize.
In the national competition, there are five categories: Opening lines of books; Authors; and Titles - with the next two categories unknown until the competition.
Teams press a buzzer to give answers orally and lose points if they are incorrect so it is very pressured to beat other teams to the buzzer and have the right answer.
The winning team at the nationals will go on to Singapore to compete in the World competition in the July school holidays.
The team will be reading widely over the next few weeks and we wish them all the very best of luck in Wellington.
