South Island Surf Life Saving Championship Success

Mrs G Beardmore —

Year 10 Columba College student Amelia Loudon competed in the Southern Region Surf Life Saving Championships over the past weekend, and came away with some fantastic results. Her achievements are highlighted below, and we congratulate Amelia on her impressive performance representing her local St. Kilda Surf Lifesaving Club.

Amelia Loudon competed in the South Island Surf Lifesaving Regional Championships recently and performed exceptionally well in a number of events resulting in her taking out 2nd place overall in the U14 female category.

Amelia's achievements across the two day event are listed below:

1st in the Surf race: Swimming from the water's edge over a distance of 400m around a marker to the finish line.

2nd in the Run-Swim-Run race: Running a distance of 100m to the water's edge, swimming 400m around a marker, and then running back to the start line.

1st in the Diamond Race – A 400m swim is followed by paddling a rescue board around a longer 800m course to the finish line.

4th in the Beach Sprint race.

4th in the Tube Rescue – Two person race with one athlete swimming out to a buoy and the other athlete swimming out with a tube to complete a successful rescue.

5th in the Board Rescue – Two person race like the tube rescue. One swimmer swims out to a buoy while the other paddles out on a board to collect the swimmer and return to the shore to complete a successful rescue.

In a strong field of surf life saving competitors, Amelia did very well to win 2nd place overall. Columba College is extremely proud of her achievements and we wish Amelia all the very best for the upcoming National Championships. What a fantastic sport to be involved in!
