Annual QUAD Exchange

Miss D Turnbull —

Columba College is set to host the annual QUAD Sports tournament next week, Monday 3rd - Tuesday 4th August. Columba is looking forward to welcoming St. Margaret's College (Christchurch), St. Hilda's Collegiate (Dunedin) and Craighead Diocesan School (Timaru) for two days of spirited competition.

There is a lot of excitement and anticipation as the annual QUAD tournament has been expanded to include two more sports, as a result of the cancellation of many sporting tournaments in the school calendar because of COVID-19. Typically, Columba fields their top senior Netball, Hockey, Badminton and Debating teams to compete against the three other schools involved in this annual exchange, however, the two days of competition are set to be even bigger and brighter as we include our Senior Basketball and Football teams this year.

As per tradition, there is intense competition between the teams with matches played in good-hearted spirit, and mixed with high levels of historical rivalry. The games are played over two days, and are usually of a very high standard, showcasing the talents of students across all schools participating schools.

Drawing many spectators and side-line supporters, the games are scheduled for the following venues:

Netball - Columba College Marsh Sports Centre

Basketball - St. Hilda's Collegiate Gymnasium

Hockey - Dunedin Hockey Turf (Logan Park)

Debating - Columba College (Caroline Freeman and Library)

Badminton - Otago Badminton Hall (St. Kilda)

Football - Logan Park artificial grounds

Sure to promise action-packed competition and quality games, we encourage all friends and family of the Columba Community to come along and support our students participating in the exchange. We wish all our teams the best of luck, and extend a big thank you to all the coaches, managers, parents and school staff who are assisting in the running of this very important annual event.
