Otago Tri Club 2021 Winter Duathlon Champs

Mrs G Beardmore —

The Otago Tri Club ran their Winter Duathlon champs at MacAndrew Bay on Sunday 26th September. Despite cold and windy conditions, a field of 40 athletes braved the temperature and competed in either the 'Sprint Distance' or 'Have-a-go' events. Congratulations to our Columba College students who took part, especially with daylight savings stealing an extra hour of precious sleep preparation!

Columba students Melanie Button (Year 9) and Anya Rhodes (Year 10) competed in the winter duathlon champs on Sunday. Both entered in the combined Year 9 and 10 race, which consisted of a 2.5km run, 10km cycle, and finished with a 2.5km run.

Cold and windy conditions didn't stop the Columba girls from showing their grit and determination, with Melanie coming home in 1st place closely followed by Anya in second. Both had great races in very windy conditions.

Year 3 student Emerson Hawken also took part in the event, and we are super proud of her efforts competing in the Year 7 & 8 category! Well done, Columba - great to see you all out there!
