Windy Day for Beach Volleyball

Mr A Sparrow —

Columba College was again well represented at the weekend's beach volleyball competition held at Brighton Beach, fielding nine teams in total.

This time, the weather was threatening to ruin the day. Fortunately, the cliff surrounding the beach shielded most of the wind; it was still warm though overcast, and rains held off until after the tournament had finished.

Columba students formed the following teams -

Women's Open:

Ruby Jary & Olivia Bolwell (2020 alumna)

U19 Women’s:

Madi Lobb & Jasmine Lobo Linwood

Macey Mercer-Black & Alisha Horne

U17 Girls:

Holly McRae & Tayla Finlay

Aun Leeaudomwong & Meg Macdougall

Phoebe O’Donnell & Sienna Baker

Ryan Dailey & Alex Duff

Amelia Hollows & Georgia Spek

Millie MacKenzie & Zara Pratley

All Columba teams played great volleyball and represented the school with Grace. The results from the day demonstrate just how dominant Columba College is in the local competition:

Women’s Open:

1st - Ruby Jary & Olivia Bolwell

U19 Women’s:

1st - Madi Lobb & Jasmine Lobo Linwood

2nd - Macey Mercer-Black & Alisha Horne

U17 Girls:

2nd - Ryan Dailey & Alex Duff

3rd - Millie MacKenzie & Zara Pratley

4th - Holly McRae & Tayla Finlay

Beach volleyball is an up-and-coming sport in Dunedin. Several Columba students are taking up opportunities to attend programmes intended to develop their skills in the sport. It is likely that Columba will continue to dominate the Dunedin competition for years to come.
