Student Council is underway for 2021

Mrs L Piebenga —

The first Senior School Student Council meeting for 2021 was held on Thursday. It was very successful and it was lovely to see so many students enthusiastic to contribute to the school. This week at our introductory meeting, students from across Years 7-13 were present; however, in the future, Years 7-10 representatives will instead be involved in the Middle School Student Council, run by Middle School Prefect, Kennedy Dailey.

The Senior School Student Council will be comprised of Form Captains and their Deputies representing all Senior School form classes. It is led by Deputy Head Girls, Madi Loudon and Olivia Charles. The council will meet regularly throughout the year to ensure that student voice is heard within the school.

This year, we are dividing our focus into two main parts. Firstly, we are considering our approach to fundraising/outreach, with the aim to help local, national and international causes with the help of Citizenship Prefect Caitlin O’Brien. Secondly, within the school, we are looking at  developing a variety of initiatives and ideas, focusing on improving the Columba experience. There will be plenty of opportunities for all of our student representatives to get involved and exercise their leadership within the school.

If anyone has any ideas, questions or concerns which they feel the Senior School Student Council should be made aware of, please email Olivia (oliviacharles@columbacollege.school.nz) or Madi (madelineloudon@columbacollege.school.nz). Also, if anyone has any causes they feel would benefit from being part of our fundraising/outreach programme this year, it would be great to hear of these too, as we aim to have many opportunities for fundraising throughout the year (Dunk the Teacher stall at the Fair anyone?!).
