Classics Week Success

Mr J Hayden —

In spite of a fragmented Classics Week cruelly cut short by ‘Lockdown v. 2.0’, Columba College students still managed to enjoy success akin to Caesar’s campaigns in Gaul.

Across six categories judged by a panel of experts and comprising entries from as far afield as Whangaparaoa, Palmerston North, New Plymouth and Wairarapa, Columba scooped two First placings - Victoria Dearden, Masyn Harrex and Lily Ferro (all Year 12), with their exquisite recreation of the Elgin Marbles and Year 13 student Olivia Charles, whose detective work would make Herodotus proud in the ‘Where Am I?’ competition.

Coupled with this was a well-deserved runner-up prize in the meme-making competition for Year 12 student Jasper Davis (hilariously capturing the expulsion of Hephaestus from Olympus in what the judges noted was “a real old school meme”), and a ‘Highly Commended’ for Maia Hayden (Year 3) and her tasteful 21st Century reimagining of Augustus’ Prima Porta.

Kudos, and a big Bene Factum to all Columba contestants!
