Success at Aerobics Otago Regionals

Last weekend, Columba College had amazing results at the 2022 Aerobics Otago Regionals. This event took place at Kavanagh College at which Columba had 25 competitors showcase their routines throughout the weekend. Columba gained many medals and high placings from this event.

The day started off with Intermediate teams; Columba had two teams in this category. Both teams performed well in the heats and qualified for the finals on Sunday. Olivia Brown and Ruby Nicholson performed an amazing routine, placing 2nd. Daisy Cooper and Jeila Morrison stunned everyone with their routine, placing 1st. In the following category, intermediate pre-choreographed, all three Columba teams were impressive on stage. In their first competition, Isabella Van Aart and Grace Steel did well to place 6th. Ryleigh Dey and Harlow La Hood made the finals and placed 4th. Charlotte Bloxham and Holly Wetherall are to be celebrated for placing 1st.

In the next team category, Novice Teams, Dani Walker and Hannah Bloxham did well to make finals in this tough category. Rahwa Steel and Olivia Wallace placed 3rd. Well done to all the girls in this category. Lucy Quill and Josie O’Neill competed in Secondary teams and placed 3rd thanks to their awesome routine.

Next to take the stage were the fitness teams. Columba entered three fitness teams. 'The Girls are Back' (Josephine O’Halloran) placed 1st, 'The Spice Girls' (Josie O’Neill) placed 2nd and 'The Incredible Girls' (Emily Ward and Ellery Taylor) placed 3rd. Sophie Butson also had a great first aerobics outing with her fitness team winning their section; she also qualified for nationals with her individual routine. These fitness teams were representing Columba as well as their respective clubs.

Coming to the individual categories, Sabi Taylor and Rhianjali Giles competed in intermediate individuals. Sabi and Rhianjali both presented high-energy routines and have done an incredible job in this very tough category. Well done, girls! Rahwa Steel and Dani Walker were impressive in Novice Individuals; congratulations to Rahwa for making the finals. Olivia Wallace and Emilie Matthews competed in Junior Open Novice and both made the final, placing 3rd and 4th respectively. Pre-choreographed Individuals was next and Kate Miller is to be commended for making finals in this huge category. She performed awesome routines on both days.

Columba’s final competitor of the day was Lucy Quill in the Senior Open individual. Lucy competed in an amazing routine and placed 3rd - this is an impressive achievement for such a tough category.

A special mention must go to Charlotte Bloxham and Holly Wetherall for receiving the Trophy for Most-Promising Pre-choreographed routine. This is an outstanding achievement for both of these girls' first aerobics competition! We would also like to congratulate Olivia Brown, Ruby Nicholson, Daisy Cooper, Jeila Morrison, Harlow Lahood, Ryleigh Dey, Charlotte Bloxham, Holly Wetherall, Rahwa Steel, Olivia Wallace, Lucy Quill, Josie O’Neil, Jo O’Halloran, Emily Ward, Ellery Taylor for qualifying for nationals in Invercargill later on September 17th - 18th.

Overall, the 2022 Aerobics Regionals event has been a very positive and successful event for Columba, with some truly astounding results and many medals. These girls will now be looking at training for the 2022 Nationals in September to improve their results even more!
