Sports Awards 2017

Miss Turnbull —

The Sports Awards were held on 27 October in the Marsh Sports Centre.

75 Otago Reps, 6 South Island Reps, 13 New Zealand Reps and 50 Sport Blues were recognised throughout the evening. Students also gained badges for being a junior in a Senior A Team, coaching a school team or being an offical, umpire or referee.

We had a special guest, Paralympic Gold Medallist Anna Grimaldi, who shared her story with us and was incredibly inspirational.

We also heard speeches from Director of Sports Miss Turnbull, Sports Prefect Caitlin Deans, Sports Council Chairman Mr P. Turner, and our Sports Captains for 2017.

The gym was transformed and looked fabulous, thank you to everyone who attended to congratulate our fantastic athletes.  Our teams of the year could not be separated and were awarded dual recipients - U16 Four Rowing Crew and Senior A Touch Team.

PJ Turnbull was recognised as coach of the year for his four years of volunteer service to the Senior A Touch Team. Huge mention to our three special award recipients:

  • Caitlin Deans - S. English and S. Wood Cup for Commitment and Sportsmanship.
  • Clora Quinlan-Thompson - Sports Personality Trophy
  • Mia Nevill - Shona Harvey 'Inspire and Excel' Cup

Also to all our sponsors - Stirling Sport, Kelk Photography, Strawberry Sound, Ace Food Services and the Columba College Sports Council, nights like these are not possible without your ongoing support and we are truly appreciative.
