ARO Workshop and Performance

Mrs M Small —

The Junior School and selected Year 7 and 8 pupils celebrated parts of New Zealand’s natural history through a collection of waiata and stories.

On Wednesday, the Junior School and selected Year 7 and 8 students visited the Arai Te Uru Marae on Shetland Street. We enjoyed a performance by Emily and Charles Looker (Ngāpuhu, Te Rarawa, Ngāti Te Atu, Ngāti Mutunga) of ARO. They presented their collection of stories and waiata celebrating the natural heritage of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Selected Year 4-8 students took part in the workshop prior to the performance. This workshop was a chance for students to learn a new waiata and explore some of our native creatures from Aotearoa, New Zealand. They then had the opportunity to perform with the ARO team to the Junior School.

Special thanks to the parents who gave up their time to accompany us on this trip.
