Year 5 and 6 trip to the Portobello Marine Studies Centre

Mrs Bridger and Ms Moore —

On Thursday the children in Year 5 and 6 boarded the bus at 8.40am to head down to the Portobello Marine Studies Centre to participate in the “Suckers and Tentacles” programme. This related to our current Science Living World topic perfectly as the children had been exploring the concept of evolution through our particular focus on molluscs, especially the octopus and squid.

One of the special activities involved dissecting a squid – some of the children will never forget that experience! Other highlights included exploring the touch tank, with the children getting close up to starfish and sea anemones.

To conclude our field trip we had a picnic lunch at the Portobello playground before heading back to school.

A big thank you to the many parents who offered to come and for those who assisted us at the Centre and the playground.
