40H Famine Fundraising Efforts

Miss O Charles, Miss A Fu, Miss G Wong —

Last weekend, people all around New Zealand participated in the 40 Hour Famine. We raised money for the people of Malawi, who are facing severe effects of climate change as well as Covid-19.

Those who took part from Columba completed a range of challenges from ‘no talking’ to ‘no technology’ for 40 hours. So far we have collectively raised over $1800, surpassing our goal of $1200, so a huge thank you to all who have taken part and donated to make this possible. This money could purchase, for example, 10 trees for each of 25 school gardens (250 trees).

We will be sending out a survey next Monday to find out about students’ fundraising efforts. Treats for those who participated are coming, as well as something extra for those who raised the most or completed the most unique challenges! A special mention to Tessa Campbell, who has done amazing work raising over $600.

For those who still wish to support students’ Famine efforts, there is still time to make a donation - every cent makes a difference.
