Columba Students named in NZ Junior Volleyball Squad
In October, Year 11 students Amelia Hollows and Ryan Dailey attended Volleyball New Zealand’s Junior Women’s Indoor trial in Christchurch.
These trials are associated with the next two-year cycle for all athletes born between 2005 and 2006. This age group will be targeting possible events including the Trans-Tasman series, Australian Junior State Champs (AJVC), and Asian Junior Championships in 2024.
We are pleased to announce that both players have made the squad! The squad of roughly 50 athletes will assemble in Palmerston North in April for a training camp following the New Zealand Secondary School National Championships.
Amelia and Ryan have both played volleyball at an exceptionally high level since starting in Year 7 and their Columba College teams won the Intermediate title in 2019 and the Junior title in 2021. They have both played for the Senior A team since they were in Year 9. Amelia and Ryan are both Otago representative players and Amelia played for the Scorpions women’s club this season.
Columba College has a strong, young senior team coming into 2023 and we can’t wait to see what the team will accomplish!
Good luck at the camp in April, Ryan and Amelia!
